On the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, we stand in solidarity with survivors worldwide and sound the alarm about policies and actions that threaten the legal protections and weaken human rights mechanisms created to prevent and punish acts of torture and abuse.

Our joint statement to mark the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

The United Against Torture Consortium (UATC) operates at a time of mounting global challenges. As conflicts proliferate, authoritarianism rises, and civic space continues to shrink, torture and other forms of ill-treatment remain a persistent reality despite their absolute prohibition under international law. From 2023 to 2026, the UATC worked to confront these challenges by strengthening prevention, protection, accountability, justice, reparation, and rehabilitation efforts, while supporting survivors and the organisations that stand alongside them.
