Volunteers

We have a small group of dedicated student volunteers and interns. Their impact on Omega is significant, and we’re grateful that they spend some of their time supporting our work.

On this page, you can learn more about our current volunteers and the kinds of tasks they’re currently undertaking:

ELSA ANDRESS

I am a Spanish-qualified lawyer and currently an LLM candidate in Human Rights, Conflict and Justice at SOAS University of London. My areas of focus are international human rights law, legal research and strategic litigation.

At the Omega Research Foundation I carry out research on excessive use of force in detention settings by law enforcement in Argentina, assessing practices against international human rights standards and supporting human rights training on torture and less-lethal weapons. I am also assisting with preparations for a case concerning excessive use of force by police in Catalonia, Spain.

Kate Orr

I am a Human rights professional currently working as a consultant at the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). My main areas of interest are freedom of peaceful assembly and anti-trafficking, however I have also engaged with topics on human rights defenders, counter-terrorism and torture prevention. I hold a Master’s degree in Human Rights and Democratisation from the Global Campus of Human Rights.

At Omega Research Foundation, I am currently carrying out market research to identify examples of Kinetic Impact Projectiles (KIPs) currently manufactured or promoted by companies. Of particular importance, the research looks at the accuracy of the projectiles, their caliber, material, and effective firing ranges, among other things. All of these factors allow for an assessment of the risk of injury, especially if misused by authorities. Mapping of these characteristics will allow Omega to map out standards related to the manufacture and performance of less lethal weapons, looking at how they are used by police on the streets and in places of detention.

I have absolutely loved working with Omega so far and look forward to continuing working together

Thank you all so much for your commitment to human rights and your support of Omega’s work!
