Marina is a staff physician in the Emergency Department in the Infanta Sofía Hospital, Madrid, and is a Professor in emergency care and hospital emergencies at the European University of Madrid. Marina has provided training to a range of actors on issues related to the Istanbul Protocol – the United Nations Manual for the effective investigation and documentation of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. She has provided expert testimony to national and international courts concerning the documentation of torture.
Marina graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). She carried out post-graduate studies in Family and Community Medicine and holds a Ph.D. Marina has additional training in emergency medicine, care of polytrauma patients, and the sequelae of abuse and torture. She also supports Sira, a Spanish NGO based in Madrid dedicated to caring for victims of abuse or torture.
