This submission to the United Nations’ Committee against Torture (CAT) is intended to inform the preparation of the CAT List of Issues (LOIs) for South Africa prior to its 67th Session.
It outlines issues of concern relating to the manufacture, trade and use of certain types of military, security and policing equipment which could be deemed to contravene Articles 2 and 16 of the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment (the Convention).
