In this briefing Omega examines the proposed procurement direct contact electric shock stun gloves by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to the Associated Press and Wired magazine, ICE plans to spend between $10 million and $20 million purchasing potentially thousands of stun gloves & issuing them to some ICE agents.
Omega is deeply concerned by the proposal. These stun gloves are torture equipment, whose purpose is to cause pain.
Over the years, research by Omega, other human rights organisations, and the media has repeatedly exposed the use of direct contact electric shock weapons for torture and ill-treatment around the world.
Omega is calling on the US authorities not to proceed with the proposed ICE procurement.
