This manual describes in detail the prohibition of torture and other ill-treatment in international law, and outlines the safeguards provided by international law and standards against torture and other ill-treatment.
This report, to which Omega contributed, covers every stage from arrest and detention to trial and imprisonment, as well as situations where torture may be inflicted outside detention settings. It also explains Amnesty International’s positions where these go beyond current international law (for example, Amnesty International’s total rejection of the death penalty) and provides guidance on campaigning against torture and other ill-treatment. This is the second, updated and revised, edition of the manual. (The original edition from 2003 can be found on the Amnesty International website).
