Under the United Against Torture Consortium, Omega is pleased to be able to provide small grants to six civil society organisations to help further their work to address the unlawful use of force by police or other state officials.
The projects supported will develop and implement a diverse range of research, strategic litigation, campaigning, capacity-building, high-level advocacy, and media activities.
Through this round of grants, we were able to support the work of:
- Belgrade Centre for Human Rights (BCHR) based in Serbia
- Cedar Centre for Legal Studies (CCLS) based in Lebanon
- La Corporación de Promoción y Defensa de los Derechos del Pueblo (CODEPU) based in Chile
- Mukuru Community Justice Centre (MCJC) based in Kenya
- National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL) based in Philippines
- Women’s Association for Women and Victims’ Empowerment (WAVE-Gambia) based in The Gambia
These projects seek to reduce the unlawful use of force by police or other state officials and advance related human rights-based police reforms.
We are keen to continue to work with the organisations supported and to further develop these partnerships. It is thanks to our role in the United Against Torture Consortium that we have been able to support this important work.
Omega is a member of the United Against Torture Consortium together with the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT), the International Federation of Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture (FIACAT), the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT), and REDRESS.
