This week, Omega released a new regional briefing, examining the trade in law enforcement equipment used in torture in the European region.
The briefing, available here, provides an introduction to different categories of equipment used in torture and other human rights violations: electric shock, chemical irritants, kinetic impact weapons, and restraints.
The briefing profiles existing regulatory regimes from the European Union, the Council of Europe, and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
We’ve included some examples of case studies highlighting different aspects of the trade in Europe, as well as recommendations for European States.
The briefing was prepared under the United Against Torture Consortium, a project funded by the European Union, but the contents are solely the responsibility of the Omega Research Foundation and can under no circumstances be regarded as reflecting the position of the European Union.
