On August 12th it was reported that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are planning a major purchase of electric shock gloves designed to inflict pain through direct contact with a person’s skin.
According to the Associated Press and Wired magazine, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to spend between $10 million and $20 million purchasing potentially thousands of stun gloves & issuing them to some ICE agents.
Omega is deeply concerned by the proposal. These stun gloves are torture equipment, whose purpose is to cause pain.
Over the years, research by Omega, other human rights organisations, and the media has repeatedly exposed the use of direct contact electric shock weapons for torture and ill-treatment around the world.
Omega is calling on the US authorities not to proceed with the proposed ICE procurement.
