Conventional Arms Control

Under this programme of work Omega looks at the manufacture, sale and use of conventional arms, including small arms.

Omega has worked on the international Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), from helping develop the initial idea through to the adoption of the ATT in 2013 at the UN General Assembly. Omega also carries out on-going work regarding treaty implementation. Along with Amnesty International and other NGOs, we work to ensure the ATT is a strong and effective regulatory instrument that will prevent the irresponsible transfer of arms. We have provided information for Amnesty reports and training to UK-based NGOs and international campaigners on the categories of equipment included in the proposed scope of the ATT.

Other work recent work includes examining the structure of the Chinese military industry and looking at Floating Armouries in the Gulf of Aden.
