EVENT: First Ministerial Meeting of the Alliance for Torture-free Trade

Omega to participate in panel discussion and launch joint briefing with Amnesty International.

On Monday 24 September, Ministers from the countries in the global Alliance for Torture-free Trade will gather in New York for the first Ministerial meeting. One year on from last year’s launch, they will discuss how to intensify the work to end the trade in goods used for capital punishment and torture.

The Omega Research Foundation will participate in a panel discussion and make a presentation on police and security equipment that is inherently abusive or is often used to perpetrate torture or other ill-treatment. Omega and Amnesty International will launch a briefing entitled Combating Torture: The Need for Comprehensive Regulation of Law Enforcement Equipment, which sets out a series of policy recommendations to prohibit tools of torture and the death penalty and control law enforcement equipment.

Date: Monday 24th September, 3-5 PM.

Location: Conference Room 11, UN HQ, New York
