Matthew has been a researcher at Omega since 2015. His main geographic focus is Latin America, where he collaborates with a range of actors from across the region. Matthew’s contribution to our work as part of the United Against Torture Consortium includes working closely with Justiça Global and the Brazilian National Preventive Mechanism to restrict the use of force in places of detention. He is also supporting local actors in Peru, including the NPM, to improve oversight of the use of force in protests and prisons. He has joined OSCE-ODIHR assembly monitoring missions and uses his experience to support the development of stronger international standards for the protection of the right to peaceful protest.
