In December 2020, participating States of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe adopted Ministerial Council Decision 7/20 on the prevention and eradication of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. In Implementing Paragraph 21 of MC Decision 7/20, the Ministerial Council called on participating States to

Take appropriate effective legislative, administrative, judicial and other measures to prevent and prohibit the production, trade, export, import and use of equipment that has no practical use other than for the purpose of torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Omega has worked with the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to raise awareness of the trade in goods used for torture and to promote the implementation of MC Decision 7/20 paragraph 21.
